Gastronomy and the unique local products of the volcanic soil of Santorini will be the focal point of 2013, with a series of events and activities. "In recent years, Santorini claims a place among the most famous gastronomic destinations. Our agricultural products such as the fava beans and the cherry tomatoes, but mainly the wine, have been instrumental in shaping this image. Today, it is necessary to take the next step in order to capitalize on the effort of all these years and additionally, to make Santorini the forefront in news for a long period of time, during a time when tourism is becoming a major issue for the country's economy as a whole", as the Mayor of Thera mr. Anastasios-Nicholaos Zorzos addressed in his presentation.
The Facebook page www.facebook.com/Santorini2013 is operational for the "2013 Year of gastronomy in Santorini" and the website will soon go live.
The design of the logotype was based on the middle Cycladic "prochou" (jug) that was discovered from the excavations that took place during the construction of the new roof of the archaeological site of Akrotiri.
