Ports and mooring sites

ATHINIOS
Athinios is a well known port where ferries call at. Here, the great sea depth and the 24-hour shuttle ferry service will make it impossible for you to drop anchor, although you can moor for fuel and water supplies –upon arrangement with the port authorities.

VLYCHADA
On the southern end of the island, it is the best port for those visiting by boat, with its own marina.

GIALOS – OLD PORT OF FIRA
The huge cruise ships also call at Gialos, the old port of Fira. There are three big buoys for you to moor, but don't even think of dropping anchor: the waters are very deep and the bottom rather rocky.

AMMOUDI-ARMENI
Below Oia, Ammoudi bay is located, affording a small bank for easy access. A trail connects Ammoudi with Armeni bay: you can drop anchor at its north nook.

The north-eastern side of Santorini, Vourvoulos and Pori, is dotted with small ports and fishermen havens.

NEA KAMENI (VOLCANO)
An all-weather safe port is the one of Nea Kameni at Kakaki bay (though the yellowish color of the sea and the strong smell of sulphur deters visitors from docking here).

THΕRASSIA
At Riva cove you can dock at one of the piers –if you are lucky enough to find one free- or a bit off the port. You will be protected here from meltemia (the Etesian winds), but you will be susceptible to south-eastern winds.
