Wine Museum 
 

The unique Wine Museum is located 8m underground. Tunnels that reach the length of 300 meters long, shows the history of wine making and life in Santorinian vineyards from 1660 to 1970.

Through reconstructions using working and fixed models and a personal automatic guide available in nine languages, the visitor is lead through the history of wine making.

The museum was created through the passion and commitment Koutsoyiannopoulos family has for tradition, and the wines that the family continious to produce today.

It took 21 whole years of hard work, patience and persistence to create the museum. Funding was entirely from Koutsoyiannopoulos family. All work was carried out by hand, without mechanical help, since the space is narrow, long and low and thus made this impossible.

All the tools, containers and machines aer authentic and rare pieces: machines that worked for previous generations and have now allowed thei souls to remain in this place. The pruning, ploughing of the land, the harvest and the pressing and the weighing of the grapes are on exhibit in wine miseum. Life size machine running manicans dressed in early 20th century Santorinian clothes will take the visitors on a journey to another time. This journey will end with a visit to the office of thw founder of the winery, Gregoris Koutsoyanopoulos, where one can see all of his personal effects and office equipment from 1870.

Finallly, the visitor will have the chance to try three of the best wines produced today in Koutsoyannopoulos winery. in our specially arranged tatsting area. In this way, each visitor will leave the museum knowing a litle more about the past, about Hellenic Cycladic culture and about the product known as wine.

The museum is open all year round:

» April-May-November: 12:00-20:00 (every day)
» January-February-March-December: 9:00-14:30 (except Sundays)
» June-July-August-September-October: 10:00-20:00 (every day)
